Las Cuevas is known by most to be the best whitetail hunting ranch in the country, and one of the best in the world. Yes, that's right, one of the best in the world! Every year, hunters from all over the world visit Las Cuevas in search of the "muy grande". This ranch was originally a cattle ranch, and the Lopez family has been intensely managing it for 20 years, making it what it is today: the most famous ranch in Mexico.
LOCATION
Las Cuevas is located just 10 miles south of the Texas border, right in the heart of the Golden Triangle, which is considered one of the best areas in the world for giant whitetail deer. It is approximately a 1 1/2 hour drive from the city of Eagle Pass, TX or 2 1/2 hours from Laredo, TX.
The ranch also has an unpaved landing strip (4500 X 130 ft), which is in excellent condition and used regularly by planes such as King Airs, Cessnas, Pilatus, etc.
PROPERTY
The ranch is high fenced around the 22 mile perimeter. Seven miles of "El Amole" creek run through the ranch from West to East, giving it a most unique landscape with tall bluffs and thick brush. The habitat is ideal, due to its natural location and water abundance. The deer population and quality is known to be the best in the country. Equipped with 15 tower blinds and 5 ground blinds, as well as 26 feeders with protein year round. It’s a once in a lifetime turnkey property.
It has American neighbors to the North and East, and Mexican neighbors South and West. Roads are in excellent condition and plentiful. There is a gravel road that runs through the middle of the property and can be used no matter the weather. There are 2 guest houses and a main house, which can accommodate around twenty people, as well as cowboy's quarters for 3 families. The ranch has electricity and a power generator for emergencies. There’s also a big storage warehouse and cattle pens.
HUNTING
Las Cuevas is known as a world class hunting destination, consistently harvesting mature 200"+ whitetails every year. The age class and population are ideal. The Lopez family has been running a top notch management program for years, only harvesting the oldest bucks in the property. There are plenty of stands to choose from, each strategically placed in different areas. Some on roads, some on open grasslands, all with an opportunity to have a giant Mexico
whitetail walk out of the thick brush. Protein is fed year round. Rio Grande turkey and quail (bobwhite and blue) are also seen every year, as are plenty of javelina. Ducks are also abundant during season and have never been pressured by the owners.
WATER
Five water wells fill the 80 water troughs distributed throughout the ranch, which are strategically spaced so that animals don't have to travel much to get a drink. Add to that the 27 ponds and 6 wind mills with good water throughout the year, as well as 2 big lakes that fill up whenever it rains consistently.
The seven miles of “El Amole” creek also hold pockets of water throughout the year. Needless to say, plenty of water.
WILDLIFE
Wildlife is abundant at Las Cuevas, thanks to the amount of water distributed throughout the ranch. Whitetail, turkey, quail, ducks, javelina, coyotes and bobcats are all plentiful. Of course predator control has always been a big priority for the owners, which has helped tremendously with deer, turkey and quail populations. It is very common to see eagles and hawks hunting for rabbits, and ducks flying from every pond you drive by. An oasis in the middle of the desert.
CATTLE
Las Cuevas currently holds around 350 head of excellent quality Red Angus cattle, which comprises an important part of the yearly revenue. All males calves are exported to the US every year, as are some heifers. There are plenty of horses to work the cattle on the big pastures, as well as big corrals.
IMPROVEMENTS
Pretty much everything, except for the main gravel road and some pvc piping.
*Since there are so many water troughs at the ranch, they have been omitted from the map.
